Powell, cricket star, dreams of playing in the MLB

The young athlete surprised the fans of his team by announcing the news about the transition. The Mets are one of the teams that have shown interest.

One of the most curious stories in the sports world today is the possible transition from Kieran Powell, cricket star, to baseball. Powell, 25, surprised West Indies fans (team he belonged to) when he announced the news after being a few months away from the team for personal reasons last year.

Since then, the possible future player of Las Mayores has spent his days training and exhibiting for different MLB teams such as the Dodgers, Brewers, and more recently, the New York Mets.

Just this past weekend, Powell had the opportunity to meet and talk a little with David Wright, one of baseball's biggest stars as he prepared to train. The metropolitan forerunner posed for a photo with the young athlete, wished him success, and continued on his way.

"He just told me he had heard from me," Powell said about his conversation with Wright. ‘’ He said the story is very interesting and wishes me the best. Hope everything goes well, ’’ he told MLB.com

The Mets, of course, have not confirmed having an interest in Powell; however - like many other teams - they have been curious about the possible talent of the young cricket star. A minor league evaluator described him as a line hitter, with speed, and defensive ability to cover the center field.

"He knows it's difficult, but that hasn't stopped him," said the evaluator.

Powell, being optimistic but realistic at the same time, understands that it is a long process. First, before dreaming of playing in the best baseball in the world, you must prove your talent in the minors, where thousands of dreams have remained in just that, dreams.

"I wouldn't say anything has been particularly difficult," Powell told MLB.com.

The prospect also said he felt great progress week after week, which helps him continue enjoying this process and fill himself with confidence.
